Teacher Reviews

  • A fun animal app that introduces 15 animals in 3 categories: Forest, Savannah and Jungle. This app is great for kids from 2 and up. The little ones can tap on the screen to see the actual picture of the animal being introduced. What a fun way to introduce the animals! Tapping on the words after the picture is revealed will prompt the audio to play. Lower level readers can have the text read to them, while the higher level readers can read to themselves silently. Each animal slide comes with a couple of sentences that provides more factual information about the animal. Some are fun facts which are great for the young learners to learn more about wild animals. Kids can learn amazing facts about the lion's mane, or that the crocodile is a distant relative of the dinosaur. There is also a quiz section in the app that asks questions (10 per set) about the animals from the app. The quiz works best for kids who can read or at least comprehend the audio reading of the questions. You will realize some questions get recycled in certain sets, which can serve as a good way of reinforcing the facts to the kids. It is also great for vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension development. Overall, a fun learning tool and good value for the money.

Family Activities

A great follow-up activity for this app would be to visit the zoo with the family. Ask your child if he/she can remember which animals were mentioned in this app (lion, tiger, giraffe, elephant etc.) and when you get home, try to make flashcards and have your child draw the corresponding picture of the animal. With older children, you can also play a word game as a follow up. Write out the names of the animals, and then cut each letter out and have your child rearrange the letters to form the correct word for each animal.
