iCreate is a situational drawing app that lets kids add objects and draw against a series of backgrounds. The graphics are very appealing and, while the interface could use some improvements in the next upgrade, kids should find it fairly easy to use after a bit of trial and error. The app comes with 10 background scenes (farm, mountains, ocean, etc) each with a dozen or so scene-appropriate prop objects to drag and drop in. Once you've dropped an object in the scene, you can drag it to another position, rotate it or resize it. The objects can be individually removed (trash) or you can clear the whole scene and start over. Pen and brush tools allow you to draw and paint freehand on the scene in a range of colors. Three supplementary "backgrounds" actually provide a blank page in which to drop shapes, numbers or letters.
Memory game: Take turns making a scene with various objects. Let the other person study the scene for a couple of minutes. Then take the iPad back and delete one or two of the objects. Give the iPad back to the other person to figure out which objects have been deleted.
